Justin Nielsen
Justin Nielsen, two-time winner of the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival Collegiate piano division, is an active jazz pianist in the Boise area. He has performed as a guest artist/sideman at the Gene Harris Jazz Festival, Jazz in the Canyon, Jazz Under the Stars, the Sun Valley Jazz Festival, the CSI Jazz Masters Series, as well as several local Boise venues.
Justin was a recipient of the Young Composer's Mentor Project, sponsored by the National Band Association. Through this program, he studied under Mark Camphouse and Frank Tichelli. His original composition for Jazz Piano and Symphonic band, entitled Jam, was performed at the National Band Association's national convention in Chicago. The piece was performed by the United States Army field band and featured Justin at the piano.
Justin has also been an active jazz piano teacher for the last several years. His workshop, entitled, "anyone can play jazz," is designed to invite classical musicians to explore the world of jazz and discover the value of "America's classical music."
